There is always one person who is extremely difficult to buy for and this makes a huge problem around Christmas time when you are struggling to find the perfect present! I've been told I'm pretty awkward to buy for (I fail to see how... haha) so I thought I'd put together a gift guide for ideas on what to buy the awkward friend :)
I really love fashion magazines but my absolute fave is Company as it has no annoying gossip features that 90% of other "fashion" magazines have. I'm a student, and a pretty skint one at that, so magazines have become somewhat of a luxury purchase for me (sounds ridiculous) as they cost about £3-£5 and I can't always afford it for a magazine.
A yearly magazine subscription delivers your friend's favourite magazine to their doorstep every month, usually earlier than than the date they are put on general release, making sure they don't miss a single issue! The subscription lasts a year so you don't have to keep paying for it over and over again and they often give a free gift with subscriptions too. I think I'm going to ask Santa for the Company magazine subscription; for £20 it's a bargain!
2) A DIY movie box
This is something I actually received as a present myself last year and I thought it was a great idea! All you have to do is get a box, decorate it then fill it with your friend's or family's favourite DVDs. This is great for Christmas because there are so many new releases out on DVD you could include or you could just fill it with old classics. Alongside the DVDs, pop in a few bags of sweets or microwave popcorn and you're good to go!
3) Tickets for a day trip
I love going out places, especially with family and friends. Why not book a trip for you and your friend? That means you can share the present too which is always good ;) Leave the whole day free and take along a camera and some snacks. Some ideas include: a theatre trip, a theme park day, a weekend in a big city, a treatment at a Lush Spa, a long walk with a picnic, festival tickets, a day at the beach... I could go on forever so let me know in the comments if you can think of any more!
4) Gift cards
Sounds really boring but I love receiving gift cards. You can buy what ever you'd like with them and I always save them and wait for the sales so I can get loads of bargains. You can buy them for their favourite shop or just a general one like 'Love2Shop' which can be spent in many high street shops around the UK. Maybe not the most personal gift but you cannot go wrong with it!
Alongside these ideas, make sure you search on some alternative websites for really unique gifts. Some of my favourites are:
- Firebox - www.firebox.com. A load of cool, random and crazy gadgets and gifts for literally everyone. Guaranteed to make you giggle.
- Etsy - www.etsy.com. Lovely handmade or up cycled gifts from beauty to home decor and everything in between.
- Not On The High Street - www.notonthehighstreet.com. A bit of a random assortment of things but again they have loads of personalised products from individual sellers that are really special and totally unique to anything you might find in a shop.
So these are just a few ideas to get your brains into gear and hopefully inspire you to get the perfect, alternative gift for the more 'fussy' of friends ;)
