I've always been a little dubious of Make Up Academy (aka MUA) - at such an affordable price, it seems too good to be true. I noticed that they had released some new highlighters, the Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighters, and after needing a new one for so long I thought I'd take the risk and buy it! I bought the shade 'Pink Shimmer'. They look beautiful in the packaging but do they work as good as they look?
The product itself is beautiful, as I mentioned, the packaging is lovely and I really didn't want to ruin the swirly design of the pan with my brush but a girl's got to do what a girl's got to do! The first thing I noticed was that it's quite hard to pick any up on to a powder brush. It's quite a hard powder and I struggled to get it on my brush.
As I said, I picked up the 'Pink Shimmer' which is an accurate name for the shadw. I opted for this one as it seemed the more natural one out of the selection that MUA offered (one was metallic yellow, so as a highlighting novice I went for the more natural one). It is a beautifully colour and when swatched gives a nice, subtle warm glow to your skin. The pink is very natural toned (well - as natural as a highlighter can be) and goes almost translucent on the face which I appreciated as it made it that little bit easier to apply to my contouring. It has enough shimmer to reflect light but it's not glittery which I like too.
I found that the highlighter itself isn't very pigmented unless you build the product up. It took a few layers of the product to get a noticeable shimmer on my face however I think this would make a nice 'every day' highlighter if you wanted to add a little more dimension to your usual face make up look.
I can't complain about the pigmentation of this product. For £3, it's not too bad as you get a LOAD of product and it is nicer for more subtle looks however I'll be looking for a highlighter with more pigmentation next time!
I've been wanting to pick one of these up for awhile now, they're gorgeous. It's a shame it lacks pigmentation but for the price it's great!
