Finding Out The Truth about Father Christmas

SPOILER ALERT: This blog posts tells the tragic tale of how I found out the truth about Father Christmas and his festive magic. If Santa still delivers your Christmas presents  then stop reading now, as you will be thoroughly disappointed much like I was...

One of the best parts about Christmas is knowing that there is a magical man, named Father Christmas, living in the North Pole who is keeping an eye on you and judging you based on your behaviour. Good behaviour means loads of good presents, Bad behaviour means a lump of coal (if you're lucky).

And up until the age of around 11, I believed this story to be true. Of course Father Christmas existed, why on earth would I get a load of presents on a random day other wise? So when one frosty morning in the school holiday break my sister asked me "You don't still believe in Santa do you?" I began to question everything about Christmas I had ever known before.

Of course I believed in him. Of course there was an elderly gentleman, living in arctic conditions making gifts with an elf army. Of course his reindeer flew around the world in 12 hours, stopping in every single household in every single country on every continent. Of course he could see every child in the world and judge their behaviour, carefully monitoring which ones deserved presents or not.

But, despite my strong beliefs, I still wondered why on earth my older sister would be asking if I still believed in Santa. Curiosity got the better of me.

"No, I don't," I replied. "Why?"

The saying 'curiousity killed the cat' can certainly be applied here. My choice to delve into my sister's odd question proved to be the ruining of my view of Christmas magic.

"Oh that's ok then," My sister said. "Mom wanted to know if she had to still sneak in your room at night to put your presents there or not. I'll tell her you don't."

And that concludes the tragic tale of how I found out the truth about Father Christmas! Anyone else have a good story about finding out Santa's alter ego AKA your parents?
