BEAUTY // The Lip Scrub Debate: Are they worth it?

Lip scrubs Best things to be created or total waste of time? This is an opinion that causes many divisions amongst the beauty blogging world and it's one that I often questioned myself. I have always used lip scrubs but never understood the huge hype around them yet I still found people endlessly recommending me a good lip scrub. So why are they so popular? And do they make any difference?

To try and gain some insider knowledge on the whole lip scrub debate, I decided to start using my lip scrub as part of my every day skin care routine and see for myself whether it was worth the hype.

The Product itself
I've been mostly using 'Mint Julips' lip scrub by Lush alongside their recent addition which is 'The Kiss' scrub. Lush's scrubs are made up of Castor sugar and essential oils to soften and gently exfoliate the lip area. They are also edible which is a positive point for a product you'll be using frequently in the mouth area!

The  Price
A lot of people rave about the lip scrubs by Lush but a lot of people also moan about the price which, at £5.50, does seem quite a lot for what on the surface appears to be a pot of sugar however these products are hand made and contain expensive essential oils that are good for you so I can see the justification for the price. A pot should last quite a while as well so if you're careful it won't cost you too much (although they do taste amazing and it's hard to stop yourself eating them).

Benefits?
After using this product once a day, I have actually noticed it has made a difference! This time of year my lips get really dry and flaky. It feels gross. It's nice to have a product that I can use to get rid of these rough areas of skin whilst still being gentle. It does a great job of exfoliating ready for my lip balm.
And that brings me on to my main love for the scrub - it is the BEST way to prep your lips for lipstick. Most of the time I cannot be bothered to apply a full face of make up, so just do the basics and rely on a pop of bright lipstick to make me look awake. Before using a lip scrub regularly, I always found that my lips would be cracked half way through the day even if I wore a lip balm under my lipstick and it used to drive me insane. Now I use the lip scrub and balm combo, I rarely ever get this problem. It has got rid of my horrible cracked coloured lips and I can rock a nice, bright lippy all day long!

After forcing myself to use a lip scrub regularly, I can see the benefits of doing so, especially as a lipstick wearing. It is the perfect way to prepare the lip area for make up and make sure it lasts all day long without
drying or cracking!

  1. I've recently become a huge fan of the popcorn flavour one of these from Lush. They are a bit pricey I've seen tutorials where you can make them yourself but I think they're great and they really do last a while! Great post hun :)

  2. They're worth it, exfoliating your lips helps lippies go on smoothly, gets rid of the chapped skin and i heard that exfoliating your lips can help your chapstick last longer as you dont need to use it as much.

  4. I am in love with my lip scrubs, I always think when it comes to the cost of the pot that it lasts way up until the expiry date meaning that it becomes quite cheap, and I have seen the benefits also when using this daily especially in the winter :)
