We Were Liars by E. Lockhart is by far the best book I've read this year. Have you ever read a book that you've been upset to finish? We Were Liars was one of those books for me - I was gutted when it was all over!
We Were Liars follows the story of Cady and her struggle to remember what happened to her before her amnesia-inducing accident. Her grandfather owns a small private island in which he built houses for is three daughters (Cady's mother and aunts) and every summer the family has a long vacation at the island allowing Cady to hang out with her cousins and family friend Gat. This is all fine and dandy until Cady's Grandmother dies, and everything seems to go downhill. Cady then has a mysterious accident on the island, causing her to lose her memory of that particular summer, and her family refuse to tell her the secret of what actually happened.
