FILM // The Avengers: Age of Ultron Premiere

The Avengers: Age of Ultron, sequel to Avengers Assemble film, had it's UK premiere on the 21st April and lucky old me managed to go along to one of the premiere screenings at Cineworld Telford. I actually won a competition for free tickets - tickets to a film that I love - and I couldn't believe my luck!

After getting over the shock of winning the said competition, which was held by Showfilmfirst, I took Nick along (he was much more excited than I was and it was like taking a small child to the cinemas haha) for the screening and I had high expectations of the film.

So, what was the film like?

The basic plot (Don't worry - no spoilers here!) is that Tony Stark, AKA Iron Man, manages to create a peacekeeping artificial intelligence called Ultron that is designed to, well, keep peace. Only problem is that Ultron decides the main threat to peace on the planet is humans so goes all out to get rid of them all to keep the peace. The Avengers have to try and stop Ultron and his newly-recruited sidekicks Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver.

Now I liked the previous Avengers Assemble film but I did find bits of it boring (eeek). I felt it took a while to get in to and that none of the characters ever really got on with each other which was just annoying. I had a horrible niggly feeling that Age of Ultron would be similar but I'm delighted to say that I was pleasantly surprised!

First of all I've never seen an Imax film before and the quality of the screening blew my mind - I almost wanted to reach out and touch everything because the 3D was so realistic!

I was sucked into the story within the first five minutes and I watched it intently for the duration of the film. None of it was boring and there are aspects that every viewer will enjoy. The characters all got along and there was a lot of comical banter, that felt natural, throughout the film. The fight scenes were entertaining which was great for me as I usually find these boring as, making me a bit of a rubbish geek as they are in every single superhero/action film going. I loved the more personal storyline of Hawkeye; it made me appreciate his character a lot more and he seemed much more human rather than a superhero! It is a long film but, like I said, I wasn't bored and I didn't feel myself time checking as I was too engrossed in the story.

I much prefer Age of Ultron and I cannot recommend it enough to all of you! Also a big Thank you to Cineworld Telford who put on a great premiere evening :)

*I attended this event free of charge as I won tickets to the screening from Showfilmfirst. I was not asked to write this review and all opinions are my own.

  1. I really preferred Avengers 2 to the first, I love the dialogue between the characters and had some really good one liners. I’m glad Hawkeye had a better role also!

  2. I also preferred Avengers 2! Really enjoyed it, especially the party scene with Thor's hammer. I found the orginal Avengers ok at best!
