BLOGGING // The Secret to Avoiding Blogger's Block

Need new blog post ideas? Can't think of any?! We've all been there. Blogger's block: The inability to write a single word that you can share on your blog. Your brain has run out of fuel and you're at your wits end trying to think of new content to pop on your blog.

Well luckily for you, I've got some tips to help you think up some original blog posts and inspire you to get creative with new content! Use a combination of ideas to come up with your own 'secret' to avoid the dreaded blogger's block...

Make a Mind Map
A mind map is basically a starting point you write on a piece of paper that you then use to bounce off ideas on, a bit like a word association game. If you search around the web, there are hundreds and thousands of articles that are called 'Blog Prompts'. I use these as the base of a mind map; it's crazy how one little prompt can end up leading to 5 or 6 blog post ideas. Pinterest is also a great source for blog prompts.
When drawing up your mind map use coloured pens, diferent paper, stickers, any bits of colour that will help stimulate your brain and make it seem less like a school exercise and  more of a creative process.

Out and About? Use your phone
I often find I'll have a great idea when I'm at work or when I'm on the train. In fact, these great ideas always seem to happen when I am away from my laptop. If this ever happens, make sure you make a note of your amazing idea in your mobile phone or tablet. Maybe even write it on a scrap of paper. Then you can write it up when you get back home.

Take a break
When I feel uninspired I feel like I have to sit for hours at my laptop forcing a new blog post out. Unfortunately, this never works and I'm just left feeling more frustrated and annoyed that I can't write. Sometimes it's best to switch off for a bit, take a step away from the Internet and breathe.  Giving yourself a break allows you to think about things properly, without the pressure of a blank computer page staring back at you, and hopefully get more inspired!

See what other people are writing about
Always keep an eye out on what other people are writing about. This tip is a little unusual as you might get the temptation to copy but you have to resist! If one of your favourite bloggers does a tag post, you could join in and answer the questions too. Maybe someone posted something you feel passionately about, or against, and you could write a reply article on it. Maybe you've read something that made you think in the newspaper and you'd like to share it with your readers. As long as you do not copy word for word, and it's all your own ideas, you can take inspiration from others.

Write a diary entry
If all else fails, write from the heart. Write about how you feel. Write about how frustrating blogger's block is! Everyone loves reading a personal post. As long as you don't mind sharing it, someone will gladly read it and identify with it.

Hope these tips help you out! Good luck!

  1. This is such good advice, I always get great ideas when I'm away from my laptop and then can't remember them for the life of me when I get the chance to write them up. Now I write them down in the notes on my phone. :)

  3. My memo app in my phone is full of blog ideas. I love writing it all down in their and I often end up emailing myself what I have written and working with it from there. Would be a shame to let great ideas escape.

  4. I hadn't thought of some of these! I tend to only get creative ideas at stupid o'clock in the morning so keep a notebook and pen on my bedside table to write down ideas and do sketches in- otherwise I've forgotten the idea by morning!
