LIFESTYLE // Songs to listen to when Breaking Up

Going through a break up is something that the majority of people have been through and the biggest temptation, but possibly worst thing to do, is whack on an Adele album and weep until your eyes are bulging and red.

Having been through break ups, not just from boyfriends but general break up of relationships and friendships, the first thing I normally turn to is music (and hair dye, but that's an entirely different story all together) so I know a fair few albums and artists that can help heal your soul and get you on the way to being happier!

Destiny's Child / Beyonce
Feeling lonely? What's better than an attitude filled, R&B number that you can dance like crazy to. I really can't imagine Queen B, or any member of Destiny's Child for that matter, sulking over a relationship break up. Hell no! Even their break up songs are great because they all end on a positive note and that you are stronger than you think and nothing can break you! Their songs are all about positive thinking, independence and even if it's not quite your musical taste at least you can have a proper dance to it all!

P!nk
The ultimate queen of singing about songs that say "F**k you". All her songs are witty and upbeat meaning they are great to sing to your hairbrush and dance around your bedroom in your pyjamas. This woman is amazing and her songs are based on her own break ups. I really admire her attitude towards negative energy and it shows in her songs that she just gets up and gets on with things after something bad has happened. You go girl! I love the Funhouse album especially.

The Script
Now this is probably a controversial one because most of their songs are about being upset about a break up. Verging on Adele territory here so be warned. Having said that, most of their songs are anthemic and I always imagine people passionately drunk singing along to 'Breakeven'. They have a lot of upbeat songs about after a break up which I quite like listening to in reflection of whatever I'm sad about. I also think their songs are very relatable lyrics wise and it kinda puts everything into perspective - what are you actually crying about and is it going to get better in time? I really like The Script's songs for this.

Hopefully this list has given you some inspiration and you're steering away from the sad songs! What is on your ultimate play list? Leave links in the comments below!

  1. I've not been through a break up but when I'm in one of those moods I listen to are by Sum 41, All Time Low or Queen. They always seem to cheer me up

  2. It's so tempting to wallow in the sadness after a break up with Adele songs! I went through a pretty bad break up last year but to stop myself feeling down I made sure I only listened to happy songs, quite a lot of Taylor Swift and surprisingly a lot of 80s songs, they are upbeat and you can't help but dance around to them! :)
