BOOKS // Millie Marotta's 'Animal Kingdom'

Have you tried Adult Colouring Books? I've seen so much hype for the Adult Colouring book craze and I was curious to try it for myself, so I bought the rather beautiful looking Millie Marotta's Animal Kingdom to try out for myself.

I have anxiety and this often means I have trouble getting to sleep or staying asleep. I wanted to try the colouring book as something to distract myself when my anxiety is at its worst and hopefully achieve a good nights sleep.

Millie Marotta is an English illustrator who has worked with lots of different brands such as M&S and Virgin, creating illustrations and artworks for various projects. I have to say, the illustrations she has made for Animal Kingdom are just spectacular. They are thoughtfully done and I have found myself getting lost colouring in all the details for quite some time. The pictures are accurate of the animals too which is good and my Mom even had the brilliant idea of framing the pictures once coloured for the walls!

When I am colouring I do feel much more relaxed. It takes your mind off everything because you are concentrating on creating a picture or picking colours to compliment the drawings. There are  even pictures that have been left for you to add your own details and you really could spend hours creating work in the book. This book will last me a very long time. I prefer to use pencil crayons in my colouring book. I've tried felt tip pens and they just don't look as good as the pencils. I use fineliners to add extra details :)

I'm not sure if I'll be creating a large collection of adult colouring books. The main reason being that they are pretty time consuming and I just don't have enough spare time to sit and colour (although my mind appreciates it when I do chill out for 5 minutes). If you are going to try a colouring book, I cannot recommend Millie Marotta's books enough as they are just so lovely to look at and you will have hours of fun colouring in the beautiful drawings.

  1. I got one too and I feel the same, they do chill me out but sometimes I feel a bit guilty to spend like an hour sitting down and just doing some colouring in!! x

  3. I love my colouring books but they do take so long because they are so intricate! I have the Johanna Basford ones and they're so detailed

  4. I've got the Art Therapy: An Anti-Stress Colouring Book myself, which I love - it's such a nice way to relax when you want a break from staring at screens all day. Great blog by the way!
