Last week, I headed down to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London with my sister. It was a bit of a spontaneous trip but it turned out the V&A had a really cool exhibition on called 'Shoes: Pleasure and Pain' which we decided to check out.
The V&A is home to many great works of art and design from all over the world. It has collections ranging from ceramics, furniture, fashion, paintings, sculptures... basically everything and anything that is a craft. It's been popular recently because of the Alexander McQueen exhibition that was on (and gutted I missed might I add) but it's a truly stunning museum to visit and have a ponder round as there are so many amazing thing to look at. They currently have an exhibition on 'What is Luxury?' which is looks into what people regard as luxury now and this is free entry. Plus the building itself is amazing and it has a really good gift shop!
Shoes: Pleasure and Pain was fantastic and gave an interesting insight into the craft behind shoe making and designing. The exhibition shoes the extreme designs and changes to shoes over the years, including shoes from over the ages right up to shoes designed by Vivienne Westwood and Lady Gaga's own shoes! The changes over time are fascinating and some of the shoes are ridiculous... it's funny to imagine people actually wore them! The exhibition is on until 31st of January so there is plenty of time to catch this one if you're interested in fashion!
