Christmas Sugar Cookies // Blogmas 2015

Every Winter, my Mom makes delicious sugar cookies in festive shapes. It's kind of a tradition to decorate them in the least professional way because nothing beats the home made look (although this year we actually made a piping bag out of greaseproof paper!). And you always have to put a bit of a strange looking one in there, right?! Not every bake can be Mary Berry approved - we are only human haha!

Sugar cookies are really simple to whip up and can be made last minute as they don't need a huge amount of ingredients or time. They are fun to make too, especially with kids or friends.

For the basic sugar cookie recipe, we always use this method from the BBC website (the link is just here). The recipe is great as well because you only need three ingredients; Flour, Caster sugar and Butter. The amounts you need are over on the BBC link.

For the icing, we make up some icing sugar with water then add some drops of lemon flavour to it. This tastes amazing when it is piped on to the biscuit, but I would only recommend using the lemon if you are piping shapes and lines. If you plan to coat the entire biscuit, use icing sugar on it's on as I find the lemon can be a bit strong if there is too much! For eyes/noses/decoration, I use the silver and gold sugar balls or edible glitter. I especially love the look of edible glitter on white icing - it looks like fresh snow!

The biscuits are really cute and make a good sweet snack over the Christmas period. I'm going to pop mine in some gift bags and give them as little extra gifts to my friends and family.
