Winter Skin Care Routine // Blogmas 2015

Winter is mostly my favourite time of year but it poses one huge problem for me: it makes my skin go crazy. I usually have combination/oily skin and I get a few breakouts. But, come Winter time, my skin is as dry as the Sahara and if I slack on any of my facial skin care routine I pretty much end up in break-out city. Eurgh.

This year I think I've actually come up with the code to unlocking nice skin for the winter time!

I find a nice, gentle but deep cleanse is the biggest step in my routine. Make up removal is essential. My choice is Garnier Micellar water which I am very late on the band wagon with. I really did not want to believe the hype of the amazing reviews I'd seen of this stuff. I ended up buying some in a bid to try and stop me using make up wipes and I sincerely regret not tyring this stuff out sooner! It gets off the majority of my make up and leaves my face soft after. I have noticed a visible improvement in my skin since I've been using it - I cannot recommend this stuff enough!

As my skin is dry this time of year, I tend to get more break outs as my skin gets clogged with dirt and dry skin (gross). Once, or twice if I need it, a week I use Lush's Ocean Salt face scrub. It smells amazing but it works wonders on the skin. The lime in it ensures you have a nice cleansed feel after and the vodka keeps your skin toned. The scrub mainly consists of coarse sea salt which is why I tend to use it once or twice a week as it can be a little harsh on my skin, but I have known people use it more regularly if needed.

Next up is my skincare holy grail - Ultrabland Cleanser by Lush. I rave about this stuff, it cleared up my skin so quickly and it provides a fantastic, luxury hot cloth cleanser that your face will love. I did a full review here.

After my thorough cleansing routine, I like to tone my face using something gentle. I tend to switch between toner brands to honest as I find them all to be pretty much the same and not particularly life changing. At the moment I'm using Lush Eau Roma water; it's lavender and rose so soothing but toning, and makes sure any excess cleanser has left my face.

Finally, I need a heavy weight moisturiser for the colder months. My current go to is Steam Cream. Now, to be honest, I find it lies a little heavy on my skin so I tend to use it sparingly in the morning then apply a bit more before bed. It leaves my skin so soft and it really helps with the dry patches of skin I tend to get on my cheeks this time of year. And that's it to my winter skin care! Hope some of you will find this helpful, let me know in the comments which products you recommend for Winter... maybe a toner that I need to try!

  1. Ultrabland is so good! I need to go buy some more. I was late on the cleansing water too, don't worry! It makes night time so easy, right?
