#EastMidsMeetUp 13.08.16

Last week, I hopped on the train to Leicester to meet up with some of the East Midlands bloggers. I usually go to events in the West Midlands so it was nice to meet up with blogging friends from the East, and meet new people too!

I met up with a few of the girls in the train station and we headed up to Bru; a quirky, independent coffee shop that was the stuff of sugar lover's dreams!

I was spoilt for choice when browsing their cake selection, everything from lemon drizzle cheesecake to the famous bronkie, and they had pretty much every gelato and sorbet flavour you could need! In the end I settled for a sandwich (bit boring but I honestly couldn't choose between the cakes haha) and a white hot chocolate. Shout out to Charlotte, Izzy, Leanne, Sarah, Hannah, Sophie, Lora, Shani, Rebecca, Amy and Natasha who I met at Bru and were all super lovely :-)

After losing track of time and chatting away, we headed over to Manhattan 34, a beautiful, contemporary style cocktail bar that was the home to the East Midlands Blogger's event. I was obsessed with the interior of this place  - I think I'll be taking some style tips for my own place!

First of all, we were given an icebreaker challenge. When we entered, we did a lucky dip into a bag to draw out a random fact about someone else in the room - the challenge was to find who it was about! It took me ages to find my person but it was such a good idea as it meant I got chatting to almost everyone in the room and it got rid of any akwardness that sometimes happens when you meet people you don't know.

We were serenaded by local singer Becky Bruce (check out her Facebook page here, she has a phenomenal voice) while sipping cocktails and chatting, before settling down to listen to a couple of talks about the blogging world and PR. Gabby from Cool as Leicester PR kicked off the day's talks. It was great to get industry knowledge to help improve our work as bloggers and enlighten us on how we can reach out to PR companies and publications. She taught us how to build and maintain relationships with PRs, which is essential for all bloggers really! Next we had a chat from the girls at Blogosphere Magazine, which is a print publication purely for bloggers. I picked up a copy of the magazine and have loved flicking through it and reading some great pieces by bloggers.

Finally we did the charity raffle. The charities we were raising money for were Rainbows Hospice and Bowel Cancer UK. I bought a whole strip as I never win anything but this time I won not only once but TWICE! And one of the prizes was the grand prize of a photo shoot!!! I couldn't believe my luck!

The event was one of the best blogging events I've been to. The atmosphere was great, everyone was having a good time and as well as meeting new people we got to get some advice to take home and use for our blogging. Not only was the event wonderful, we got to take home HUGE goody bags packed with amazing products, including some gorgeous homeware from Matalan, some beauty bits and skincare. Seriously, this was one of the best goody bags I've had from an event and I cannot wait to review all the things inside it on my blog and Instagram. A huge thank you to Emmie and the rest of the East Mids Blogger's girls for putting on such a wonderful event.
